Vehicle Maintenance: There ought to be a law!

When it comes to car buying, those who have read this blog before know we aren’t the biggest fan of auto dealerships. People are routinely taken advantage of and get scammed by unethical salesman, finance and insurance (F&I) folks, and increasingly, service personnel.
Well, we aren’t the only ones who are feeling this way.
Across the nation there is an important piece of legislation working
its way through the system: It’s the Right to Repair Bill.
The Right to Repair Bill is a fairly easy and common sensical thing to understand. Independent repair shops (those not associated with the dealers) are currently denied the right to access many of the computer systems and repair codes that are necessary to fix today’s complex automobiles. This gives dealerships a monopoly for an increasing numbers of repairs and maintenance work. With no competition, the price for certain repairs and parts is sky-high.
The Right to Repair bill would authorize regulators to ensure
independent repair facilities have access to these vital repair and
diagnostic tools which would then allow a more even and competitive playing field thus keeping prices in check. The European Union has already adopted a similar measure and we think its time we do the same here in America.
This is an important piece of legislation that AAA is firmly supporting and we urge you to click on the link above and contact your local representatives to help move this common sense bill forward.
