You don't need Nav!

In our never ending quest to give you the best tools for extended auto warranties we had to write this quick piece regarding car buying tips.

In short – YOU DON’T NEED NAV!  Lots of folks call in every day asking about our car warranties and we are often asked if warranties cover things like DVD or in-dash navigation systems (depending on the plan maybe they do, but often this type of coverage is a surcharge).

Don’t get me wrong – I have navigation, and its great.  Better than great – its awesome!  How did people find a Starbucks before these things?  But for Pete’s sake – you don't need the factory installed in dash system!  The prices are crazy!  To compare – the 2011 Honda Accord EX with navigation is about $2,200 more then the regular EX without navigation.  Now head over to Amazon.com, the most expensive Garmin unit costs $800 although you can get a real hum-dinger for $350.  And you can take it with you! Keep that in mind the next time you use the extended parking lot at the airport.

DVD systems for mini vans are just as bad.  Kids and parents both love these things as they make the trip over the river and through the woods to granny’s house that much nicer.  But to get the rear seat DVD player on the 2011 Chrysler Town and Country you need to spend an additional $4,000!  Our suggestion, buy each of your kids an Apple iPad for $500.  The iPad is way cooler than even the hippest minivan (did we just write that?) and way more functional.

So the next time you are looking for an extended auto warranty, give us a call!  The next time you are looking for Navigation or backseat DVD players – head for the mall!
